Health & Longevity
Average Life Span: 12-15 years
The Nehi Saint Bernard is a unique crossbreed that combines a percentage of genetics from four different breeds: A Saint Bernard, a Cocker Spaniel, an English Shepherd, and an Ori Pei. There has to be a mixture of these four breeds for a proper Nehi Saint Bernard crossbreed to be made, therefore these mixes are rare and their health history is sketchy at best. It has been noted in a few Nehi Saint Bernard occurrences that these crossbreed pups are prone to health issues that other medium-sized to large-sized dogs are apt to develop. For example:
Joint Dysplasia – Occurring during development, this condition is caused by a malformed joint that pops in and out of socket. Usually the elbow or hip, dysplasia can lead to a lack of cartilage, painful arthritis, and a permanent limp. If you notice your Nehi Saint Bernard has an awkward walk, take him to the vet for an examination. Surgery is the only method of fixing joint dysplasia.
Cherry Eyes – This condition is caused by an outburst, or prolapse, of the inner, lower eyelid, also known as the third eyelid. The gland is a fibrous tissue that can pop out due to swelling and irritation from allergies, trauma, or genetic tissue weakness. Mostly painless and non-threatening, cherry eye can be surgically corrected by replacing the gland or removing it altogether.
While little is known about the Nehi Saint Bernard because of the lengths it takes to create one, it has been documented that they have long lifespans. The average Nehi Saint Bernard is reported to live between 12-15 years. That lifespan is almost twice as long as an original Saint Bernard.
Temperament & Train-ability
Lovable and playful, the Nehi Saint Bernard is a loving, caring family dog that gets along well with both children and other pets. However, their large size and excitable nature makes them a bouncy hazard to have in the presence of small kids. Train your pup to remain seated when excited to avoid accidents while young children are around. You should also teach any kids that will be around the dog how to act around him, as the Nehi Saint Bernard could act negatively if his tail, ears, or fur is yanked in a childish, hurtful manner.
The Nehi Saint Bernard is a slow mover, but highly intelligent with a loud, clear bark. He could easily scare off an intruder with his fierce growl and resounding bark alone. Rarely aggressive, these crossbreed pups would go to any lengths to protect their loved ones. They make excellent guard dogs and watchdogs, so you and your family can sleep peacefully knowing you have an alert Nehi Saint Bernard to watch over you.
Cheerful and energetic, the Nehi Saint Bernard requires regular exercise and playtime activities to remain healthy and happy. Take him on regular walks, at least twice a day, and play with him as often as possible. Invest in a few large toys to keep him occupied when you’re busy. Having a dog is almost like having a baby, after all. The same attention and affection applies to your new pet companion as it would to your own children.
Due to their size and mixture of parent breeds, the Nehi Saint Bernard can be sweet, strong-willed, compliant, and stubborn, all rolled into one. While he is eager to please, he might challenge you for dominance because it’s in his nature to be an alpha. However, use a firm, authoritative tone to establish yourself as the leader of your household. When he sees that you’re the alpha, and that you won’t back down, you’ll have an easier time getting him to comply to your commands. Be positive in your training methods. Offer your Nehi Saint Bernard treats for good behavior and praise for obedience.
Grooming
The Nehi Saint Bernard has a variety of fur options, but you can bet that his coat will likely be wavy and long. You can always trim his fur if it gets too unruly or difficult to maintain. Brush his coat daily for maintained shine, smoothness, softness, and overall health. This also helps diffuse tangles and mats before they start. You should bathe your Nehi Saint Bernard at least twice a month, but never shave his fur off. It is double-coated, which helps protect him during cases of either extreme heat or extreme cold.
If you are uncomfortable trimming your pup’s nails, brushing his teeth, or bathing him, schedule a visit with a professional groomer. He will get the full spa treatment, including a hair trim if requested.
Diet
Due to their overall large size, the Nehi Saint Bernard requires at least 4 cups of dry kibble, spread into two meals per day. Make sure the dog food is nutritious, listing whole grains and lean meats as the main two ingredients. These crossbreed dogs need wholesome, high-quality foods to stave off health issues, such as obesity and allergies. Ask your vet for more information, and a few recommendations, on the best dry dog food for your Nehi Saint Bernard.

Cost
The Nehi Saint Bernard is a rare breed; therefore, their cost estimates are almost non-existent. Breeders are attempting to create more of these beautiful crossbreed dogs, but their demand is higher than their creation. In the past, a Nehi Saint Bernard puppy from a breeder would go for as high as $2,500.
You could always check local shelters for a Nehi Saint Bernard, although the adoption fees might be a little steep due to the complex crossbreeding. If you are lucky enough to find one of these pups at an animal shelter, the adoption fees could be upwards of $500, inclusive of vaccines and a general health check.
Paws ‘N’ Pups Ranking
Paws ‘N’ Pups ranks every breed out of 4 with 1 being easiest to integrate into your life and 4 being the toughest – The lower the ranking the better.
Ranking takes into account a few basic factors including cost, skill level needed, high vs low maintenance and how critical regular training is to success. The ease of integration for a Nehi Saint Bernard would be a 2. These pups can be stubborn, and their super-mixed genetics could mean anything, but they’ve been reported to be affectionate, gentle, and protective – all traits that make a great dog for your family. However, like any big dog, it is important to properly socialize and train the Nehi Saint Bernard to avoid destructive, negative behaviors.
