Health & Longevity

Average Life Span: 10-15 years
The Beagle Bull is a hybrid breed of the American Pit Bull Terrier and the Beagle. This breed is considered to be hardy and healthy with the only major health concern being heart disease. There are some secondary conditions that you need to be alerted to which include allergies, eye problems, and hip dysplasia.

Heart disease can occur in any breed dog, but it is prevalent in certain breeds. The Beagle Bull is one of the breeds that has a higher chance of developing heart disease, especially if obesity is a factor. Your pup may not show any signs of heart disease at first and it may spring up on you and your dog.

You should keep an eye out for obvious symptoms such as gums that are gray or blueish in color, a swollen belly, and a lot of coughing or trouble breathing. Heart disease can present itself as a heart attack or even organ failure, so if you notice anything odd, report it to your veterinarian immediately.

Allergies may also be present in your Beagle Bull and they will often range from a skin allergy to a substance to an ingredient allergy in your pup’s food. You will need to watch your Beagle Bull carefully to determine if he or she has any allergies. When an allergy is present, you may notice that your pup scratches a lot, has a rash, or their skin is inflamed.

Eye problems are something else that you need to keep an eye on and they can range from a simple infection to dry eyes or even blindness. If you notice any problems or changes in your puppy’s eyes, it is important to alert your veterinarian right away.

Lastly, your Beagle Bull may have hip dysplasia and this occurs when the hip joint does not fit into the socket or when the joint is deformed. This condition will cause your pup a lot of pain, especially when he or she attempts to sit, lay down, or stand.

The Beagle Bull’s life expectancy is 10 to 15 years.

Temperament & Train-ability

The Beagle Bull is a pup that is often said to be very protective, friendly, and sociable. You will find that your pup protects you and the rest of your family. He or she will make a decent watch dog and is wary of strangers who enter into the home.

It is not uncommon for your Beagle Bull to become territorial, but you do not have to worry about your pup becoming aggressive. Proper training can prevent your pup from becoming territorial so it is important to put in the extra effort if you do not like this behavior.

This breed is known to be friendly and you should not have a problem with him or her, especially if socialized at an early age. If you do not socialize your pup, he or she may be aggressive towards smaller animals and view them more as prey instead of as a member of the family.

One thing you will not have to worry about is aggression towards children. This breed loves kids of all ages and will play with them non-stop if allowed.

Your Beagle Bull needs quite a bit of mental and physical stimulation to prevent destruction in your home. A bored pup can be a destructive pup. You should walk your pup twice a day for 30 minutes each time. This breed does best in a home where there is a fenced yard to run around.

This breed is considered a bit harder to train, due to the fact that they are strong willed and stubborn. You should remain consistent even when your pup is not listening to you. Positive reinforcement works and will encourage your Beagle Bull to do exactly what you want. They are definitely a smart breed but a firm hand will be required to train them appropriately.

Grooming

Your Beagle Bull will have low grooming needs and you will find that you only need to brush his or her coat once or twice a week. You do not need to go above and beyond for his or her coat, which is convenient for those who are quite busy.

You do not need to bathe your pup on a regular schedule, only do so when he or she really needs it. Make sure that you choose a mild shampoo that will not strip your pup’s natural skin oils when you do bathe him or her.

Diet

Your Beagle Bull will eat two cups to two and a half cups of food per day. You should choose a brand of dog food that meets the needs of your pup and offers the nutrients needed to ensure that your Beagle Bull is healthy.

You can feed your pup wet food occasionally, but do not rely on it as the sole source of nutrients because it will not provide that for your pup. In addition, if your pup does not receive the exercise he or she needs, the wet food will contribute to obesity.
